Getting Crafty

I have been exploring Pinterest which  means fun crafts for the kids. These crafts projects come and go in spurts depending on the new sites I find.

So this week they got two projects because they were both quick and easy. Project 1:  a classic twist on baking soda and vinegar. A little food coloring added to the white vinegar and we had bright bursts of fizzy color with every drop. Eventually, the kids wanted more "splash" and dumped whole cups of vinegar into the trays.

Project 2: Purple Slime

Only three ingredients were needed for this slimey project. Elmers glue, water and borax. We added blue and red food coloring ot make it purple because of course that is A's favorite color.

There was lots of sqeaking and oohing while she mixed the gooey stuff up. She proudly toted her slime next door to show it off once it firmed up. When her big bro got home she made sure to show him. Unfortunately she didn't close the bag all the way and K and I discovered a slime waterfall off the counter top that evening. Eeeww!!

Luckily, it all sticks together and comes right up. We just scooped it up and put it back in the bag.

With two crafts in one week, I'm not sure how I'll out do this next week!

Jumping for Joy

All the cousins showed off their best moves on the trampoline. From ages 3 to 13, they bounced, flipped, played air guitar and did seat drops.

We have been blessed with beautiful weather these past few weekends. The kids can play outside and burn off some of their excess energy.

A and I spent time detailing the car on Saturday. Sunday was yardwork and soccer. There was a quick break on Sunday for a craft project on the back deck. Purple slime! I'll post pictures later on that.

The rain is coming again but in the meantime we're jumping for joy while the sun is here!

Loving the Sunshine

I am loving the beautiful sunny weather we are having. I took a lunch today and soaked up all the rays I could. I'm just disregarding the odd looks from the other tenants in the building!

A Country Day

We took some time to visit The Country Village in Bothell this weekend. It had been quite some time since the last time we visited. There are lots of quaint little shops there to wander through. I could have spent much longer in the stores looking at all the treasures. Unfortunately, window shopping is not high on the the rest of the family's fun list! I did find a sign that I loved and as soon as I can figure out where I would hang it, I may go back for it. I am always drawn to lettered signs. It's a weakness!

The kids thought the chickens wandering free were pretty cool. I had to remind A not to get too close to the ducks. They are so used to people they don't run away but I didn't want to risk any bites.

The kids took a trip around the village on a train and then enjoyed some time on the playground. It's always heartwarming to see my 13-year old son still able to relax and play.

 Ahoy! Land Ho!

 Ready the cannons!

Dress-Up Day

My kids were very patient and let me dress them up and drag them down to the lake to take pictures before 9am so I could practice with my camera.

It took them a little bit to get warmed up. B was a little shy about posing especially at first. He said the boaters were laughing at him.  Eventually, he relaxed and started to have more fun.

 A. with a heart in her hand.

Next we moved locations to a building that was closed for the day and they both relaxed and playtime began. They pretended to be rockstars and goofed around making faces.

This is my favorite shot! It totally captures their relationship.

The Annual Hunt

Here's a few pictures from this year's annual Easter egg hunt. Each year we head over to my Grandma and mom's house and hide eggs in the front yard for the kids to find. Usually we have Easter dinner following but this year several family members have a nasty cold and so dinner was cancelled to give everyone a chance to recuperate and not risk spreading it.

The kids had fun searching for the eggs and I think even more fun opening them all up to see what was inside. It's fun to see them all together.

We were blessed with beautiful weather and they could spread out on the front lawn in the grass and enjoy the spring sunshine for a little bit.

Growing Up

My baby turned 8 years old yesterday. I can't believe how time has flown by. In so many ways she is still a little girl and I am so blessed that I have a child who is happy to be a little girl. She is in no hurry to grow up. Not that she doesn't have her moments of course.

She is a sweet child who is so honest in her emotions. You always know what she is feeling and thinking. Her moods can change in a flash. She is quick thinking and funny. What a sense of humor she has!

We get told often that she looks just like me. And while she might be a mini-me in looks she is truly her daddy's girl in temperament. She is sweet and compasssionate but she has a wee bit of a temper. Luckily, it passes quickly often and she is back to being her sweet self.

We went out to Red Robin last night for dinner (her favorite). She always gets the grilled cheese. It's not the food she loves there though for her birthday. As she commented at the end, "I love being the center of attention."

Her favorite part is when they come sing the birthday song to her and she gets a balloon and a sundae. She was practically hopping in her seat she was so excited and her toothless grin was so big!!

Here's a look through the years...
